Everyone is invited to attend the free Amarillo Barrio Book Kickoff Party on Monday, September 10, 2018 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Amarillo Wesley Community Center, 1615 South Roberts Street, in Amarillo, TX. The Amarillo Barrio Historical District Task Force members wrote the first-ever book, Amarillo Barrio Historical District: Past, Present, & Future, about the history of the Amarillo Barrio neighborhood, early residents, important leaders, and numerous historic sites of interest. The term “Barrio” means neighborhood. The task force members included Pastor Manny De Los Santos, Lisa Marquez Bresnahan, Charles Sanchez, Jose C. Munoz, Jr., Patricio Martinez, Lucinda Frausto, and Teresa Cervantez Kenedy. Jose C. Munoz, Jr. designed the book cover, which includes a 1951 Barrio neighborhood map, courtesy of the City of Amarillo Planning Department.

At 6:00 p.m., the Master of Ceremonies will introduce the early residents and important leaders, included in this book, and the task force members and recognize the following generous book sponsors: Amarillo National Bank, Fiesta Foods, Power Church, Amarillo Wesley Community Center, Reverend and Mrs. Jacinto Alderete, Mercy Murguia, Charles and Teresa Kenedy, La Frontera Mexican Food Restaurant, and Los Barrios de Amarillo. Delicious Mexican appetizers and soft drinks will be served and are generously donated by Tacos Garcia, Fiesta Foods, La Frontera Mexican Food Restaurant, and Lucinda Frausto. Kimbra at Enchanted Florist is providing the colorful floral table decorations. The Amarillo Wesley Community Center children are designing Mexican art placemats with the names of the early residents included in this book.

Beginning August 10, this book can be preordered & prepaid online on the Historic Barrio Book Facebook page. These books can also be purchased and/or ordered at this event. The cost is $25 per book or 5 books for $100. 100% of the book proceeds will benefit the Amarillo Barrio neighborhood. For more information, please contact Teresa Kenedy at tckenedy@gmail.com or (806) 437-6592 and/or Lucinda Frausto at (806) 640-3162.
